by springs 1. As the distance is increased between lugs 7
and 8, this operates a lever-gear mechanism consisting of lin k 2,
connected by tu rning pairs A and В to lug 7 and bell-crank lever
3. Lever 3 turns about fixed axis D and has segment gear a
which meshes w ith p in io n 4, rota ting about fixed axis E. R ig id ly
attached to p in io n 4 is lever 5 whose brush d, at the end of
the lever, slides along a set of commutator segments 6, in su la ted
from one another. Segments 6 are connected to an electrical
measuring instrument which indicates the force being measured.
