CHEBYSHEV MULTIPLE-BAR PADDLING MECHANISM

Click to enlargeClick to enlarge Description

The lengths of the links comply with the conditions: A͞B=C͞B=B͞M=A͞₁B₁=B͞₁M₁=1, β=270°, C͞‘A=0.297, C͞C͞‘₁= 0.74, C͞C͞‘= 0.765, C͞C͞₁= 1.3, C͞₁C͞₁‘=1.21, M͞M₁=1.275, C͞‘C͞₁‘=1.335, M͞₁K=1.6; The mechanism is made up of two symmetrically located kinematic chains driven by crank 1. Point M of connecting rod 2 describes a connecting-rod curve having a portion that approximates a straight line. Point K of link 3, which connects points M and M₁ of connecting rods 2 and 4 in the linkages C'ABC and C₁A₁B₁C₁‘, also describes a path having a portion approximating a straight line. As a result, all points of paddle 6 describe path a-a in which the paddle enters the water, moves along in it and is withdrawn for the next stroke.
