LINK-GEAR HYPERBOLA ENVELOPMENT MECHANISM

The lengths of the links comply wi th the conditions: A͞B=a, A͞E=sqrt(a²-b²) and b<a, where a and b are the transverse and conjugate semiaxes of the hyperbola to be enveloped. Link 1, turning about fixed axis A, is connected by turning pair B to slider 2. Slider 2 moves along the axis of link 3 which turns about fixed axis C. Link 5, turning about axis A, is connected by turning pair E to slider 4 which moves along axis t-t of the cross- piece of slider 2. Point A is placed at the centre of a hyperbola and point C at one of its foci. Then, when link 1 turns about axis A, the axes t-t and E-a of the cross-pieces of sliders 2 and 4 simul taneously envelop tne hyperbola. The mechanism can envelop only portions of the hyperbola.
