SLIDER-CRANK MECHANISM WITH EQUAL CRANK AND CONNECTING-ROD LENGTHS

Click to enlargeClick to enlarge Description

The lengths of the links comply with the condition: A͞B=B͞C. The motion of the mechanism is uncertain in the position where points C and A coincide. If slider 3 continues moving to the left from this position (point A), then the full stroke of slider 3 equals twice the diameter of the circle described by the crank. The slider travels with harmonic motion. The displacement of slider 3 from its extreme right-hand position is s=2*A͞B(1-cos(α)). The velocity of point C is v_c =2v_B*sin(α), where v_B is the velocity of point B of crank 1 and α is the angle of rotation of crank 1.
