Gear 1 rotates about fixed axis B and meshes with gear rim 2 which is integral with double-faced cam 3. Cam 3 rotates about fixed axis A and has a sliding fit on shaft 7. Each face, or edge, of cam 3 has a rise equal to one-half the total rise required. The faces are in contact with tapered rollers 4 and 5. Roller 4 rotates about fixed axis C of the base and roller 5 rotates about axis D of slide 6 which reciprocates vertically in fixed guide a. When driving gear 1 rotates, cam 3, bearing with its lower face against roller 4, rises and slide 6 travels upward parallel to axis A a distance equal to the leads of both cam faces.
