SLIDER-CRANK MECHANISM WITH A FLEXIBLE LINK

The lengths of the links comply with the conditions: r₁=r₂=r₃, where r₁, r₂ and r₃ are the radii of pulleys 1, 2 and 3, and A͞B=B͞C=C͞A. Pulley 1 rotates about fixed axis B and, through flexible link 4, rotates pulleys 2 and 3 about fixed axes A and C. Pin a of flexible link 4 slides along slot b of slider 5 which moves in fixed guides p-p. When pulley 1 rotates about axis B, slider 5 reciprocates in guides p-p. If line AB is parallel to the axes of guides p-p and pulley 1 rotates at constant angular velocity ω₁, then, when pin a travels along straight portions de, fg and hk of its path, slider 5 travels with a constant velocity equal to v=ω₁r₁ for portion de, and v'=ω₁r₁/2 for portions fg and hk.
