Driving and driven gear in closed-loop mechanical circuits

Click to enlargeClick to enlarge Description

In a closed-loop circuit the gears can feature driving or driven character, depending on the rotation sense given by the electric motor and the sign of the torque. In both figures (a and b) the sense of the angular velocity is the same. The sign of the torque is opposite in the two figures. One can notice that driving gears (denoted RM) in figure a, become driven gears (denoted RC) in figure b.
