Structure of mechanism

Function This device comprises a metal base supporting several elements, including the roller holder. A tube is positioned horizontally, and a motor drives the roller mechanism. When the rollers are in contact with the deformable tube, the internal pressure is reduced and the tube fills with liquid. This is then forced towards the pump exit. At the front are the switches and knobs used for adjustment.

Application

Examples of application The peristaltic pump was used in chromatography. The advantage of this type of pump is that the only part of the pump which is in contact with the fluid is the interior of the tube. This principle enables liquids or gases to be pumped without any contamination risk. This device is no longer used at the Aurillac Cheese Research laboratory, although peristaltic pumps are still used in the LIP (Inter-professional laboratory) to distribute media in small series of tubes
