Needle Eye Polishing Machine

Structure of mechanism

Function The invention shows a machine for polishing the eyes of sewing needle.
Any burrs, resulting from punching the eyes during the manufacturing process, have to be removed because they would cut the thread while sewing.
For this purpose the needles to be polished are threaded to eight roughened wires and clamped into the machine.
Thus, the wires cannot twist, the two clamping points are connected with a bent rod.
At each of these bent rods a pulley is mounted. Over these pulleys a tight stationary band is strained.
Once the shaft with the large wheels is moving to and fro in a quick reciprocating action, the bent rods and the roughened polishing wires are rotating simultaneously and causing the needles spread around the wire. By this means the eyes of the needles are polished.
The Berlin industrialist Schaft announced the English invention of Newton & Berry in Prussia for a patent, which was a frequently used way of technology transfer due to the Patent-Publikandum of 1815.
