Example of the influence of the helix angle on the final geometry of a walll milled with and end mill of 4 teeth and an helix angle of 45º.

Click to enlargeClick to enlarge Description

The figure shows the simulated profile of a walll than has been milled in shoulder milling conditions. The higher the axial depth of cut, the higher the cutting forces and, finally, the higher the surface location error will be. However, when the axial depth of cut matches the height of the helix angle, at 9,42 mm and 18,84 mm, the cutting forces become constant, so the error produced is also constant.
