French inventor specialised in hydropneumatic suspensions.

Hydropneumatic suspension is a suspension system without spring operating by means of pistons containing oil and gas. It was invented by George Messier, who used it in his car "without spring" (1925). Only 150 cars were sold. The system has been adapted for the Citroën 15H (1954) and the Citroën DS (1955). In the Citroën adaption, the hydraulic fluid is under pressure and the air is inert. This technology is known as "hydropneumatic". The Citroën system automatically adjusts ground clearance regardless of load.
